Ichthys: Project Benefits
Development of the Ichthys Project will deliver significant social and economic benefits to the Northern Territory and Australia as a whole.
Benefits will include:
- regional and social infrastructure enhancement
- local community and Indigenous development

- employment and training opportunities
- local business growth through supply of goods and services
- State and Commonwealth royalties.
The project will be the largest oil and gas development in the Northern Territory and it will attract other industry – such as transport, health, and professional services – to the area. It will also showcase the Northern Territory as a region capable of supporting the construction and operation of a major development in terms of:
Labour – a skilled workforce that is willing and capable of working on similar developments
Education and training – facilities in place to allow timely up-skilling of the workforce
Business – capacity to provide some of the goods and services required
Community – supportive of development in the area
Investment climate – promoting NT as an attractive potential investment opportunity
