Perth, Australia – INPEX has further committed to delivering energy in a sustainable way by signing on as a member of CO2CRC Limited – Australia’s leading carbon capture, utilisation and storage research organisation.

The membership supports INPEX’s pursuit of a net zero carbon society by collaborating with CO2CRC and its members to systematically progress the science and engineering of carbon, capture and storage (CCS) while supporting an efficient and safe deployment of the technology.

INPEX Vice President Corporate, Bill Townsend, said reducing carbon emissions is a top priority for INPEX corporately.

“I believe collaborating with industry and government is a powerful enabler for responsible energy development and we look forward to progressing activities to support a cleaner energy future,” Mr Townsend said.

“Signing on with CO2CRC complements other work we are already advancing in this space including the proposed Low Emissions Carbon Capture Utilisation and Storage Hub at Middle Arm in the Northern Territory and CCS storage appraisal works through the INPEX-led Bonaparte CCS Assessment Joint Venture.”

“As Operator of both Bonaparte CCS Assessment and Ichthys joint ventures, INPEX is ideally placed to champion CCS activities in northern Australia.”

CO2CRC is one of the world’s leading CCS research organisations, having invested more than A$ 125 million to develop and deliver better and more cost-effective technologies for CCS.

CO2CRC Executive Director and CEO Dr Matthias Raab said “We are delighted to have such a strong industry leader join CO2CRC and contribute to our research and development program,”

“Australia and Japan have a long and trusted trade relationship and INPEX’s membership further strengthens this international partnership.”
