Solid Pathways program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples

We offer a range of opportunities dedicated for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants through our Solid Pathways program. The program supports and develops individuals for potential positions within the industry, through on-the-job and external training.

  • INPEX Australia’s ‘Solid Pathways’ program provides learning and developmental employment opportunities to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander individuals to work in the energy industry.

    The program’s participants will receive on-the-job support and external training for 12 to 18 months, in preparation for potential long-term direct employment with INPEX Australia.

  • At the end of the ‘Solid Pathways’ program, participants will be expected to be able to perform the role they applied for; including having the appropriate skills, experience and qualifications.

    In some cases, individuals may already have all the required skills, experience and qualifications of the role applied for and the ‘Solid Pathways’ program will focus on developing them to become even stronger candidates for upcoming vacancies.

  • Individuals placed into a ‘Solid Pathways’ role may require internal and/or external training for upskilling.

    A personally customised training and development plan will be developed with each program participant, in collaboration with INPEX’s Learning and Development team, line manager and the Aboriginal Affairs team. The goal of customised training plans is to ensure each program participant is best set up to become a strong internal candidate for any suitable future roles which may become available within INPEX.

  • Each ‘Solid Pathways’ participant will have access to an Aboriginal mentor to support their integration and engagement within INPEX and address any cultural issues which may arise. This responsibility is part of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Coordination Advisor role in Darwin and the Manager Aboriginal Affairs and Aboriginal Affairs Advisor roles in Perth.

Our exciting early career placement opportunities are highly sought after and provide a valuable first step into our dynamic industry.

Vacation student program

This structured 12-week paid program is open to university students in their penultimate year of study, commencing at the end of each calendar year.

Students gain hands-on experience while working directly with our energy industry professionals.                                                     

Graduate program

INPEX is a diverse, inspiring and challenging place for graduates to build an exceptional career.

Our graduate program provides the opportunity to learn from talented professionals, from many different cultures, in an environment that encourages innovation. It runs for two years across all disciplines – except for Engineering, which is a three-year graduate program. 

The program has multiple rotations ensuring exposure to different teams, scopes of work and work locations. Each graduate is provided with a personalised training plan comprising internal, external and on-the-job training. Mentoring is provided by an experienced employee who will guide successful applicants through their first 12 months.

Hi, I am Billy! I am a Mechanical Technician on the Ichthys Explorer central processing facility (CPF).

I really like it here, I get along with the mechanical crew and the crews of different disciplines. There is a lot of trust between each other.

One of the best things working offshore, at the end of our 12-hour shifts, we get good sunsets which is a great way to the end the day. Especially when you’ve been working hard – it’s a beautiful thing to look at.

We have very good chefs on board that look after us and provide us with very nice meals.

We also have great facilities like table tennis, pin ball machines, x-box, a golf simulator, tv rooms, gym facilities, cinema – all creating a lifestyle while on shift.

FPSO Process Engineer

Hi, my name is Isabelle! I am a Process Engineer on the floating, production, storage and offtake (FPSO) facility.

My role is to support the day-to-day operations in the offshore team and ensure the plant is operating steadily. This includes plant stability and ensuring steady performance of fuel gas and flash gas systems and steady production of the condensate.

Working for a big company like INPEX, with three mega facilities, it’s a really good opportunity as a young engineering graduate as you interact with both maintenance and operations teams. There are so many opportunities and impactful scopes to work on.

INPEX values their employees and truly cares for their development. I love my job because my team is interactive, supportive, fast-paced and it’s a challenging environment to work in.

Onshore Production Technician

I am responsible for the safe storage and loading of the hydrocarbon products at our onshore processing facilities. I am involved in isolations of our equipment to ensure our maintenance crews can work safely plus the general overview of the work scopes in my area.

I completed a Certificate Three Traineeship in Process Plant Operations.

I really enjoy being challenged in my role and I love that every day is different. I get to work with a great crew and it’s a really rewarding job.

I enjoy my job at INPEX because it really allows me to have the ultimate work-life balance. I get to come to work in a busy, fast-paced environment where I am challenged within a great team and also have an awesome life outside of work in Darwin. It really is the best of both worlds.

Hi there, my name is Rachael and I am a Lead Buyer at INPEX.

A typical day for me involves addressing queries from both internal and external stakeholders on everything related to purchase orders and requisitions – it could be anything from system queries to payment approvals.

I also deal with the urgent requests from our Ichthys LNG onshore processing facilities.

Work is never boring – I’m kept busy and interested with the wide scope of queries I receive, plus I collaborate and work with great people. I also enjoy the work-life balance and the flexibility offered through working from home arrangements.

I studied a Bachelor of Commerce and majored in Accounting, but I am also learning on the job as INPEX encourages development through training courses, coaching sessions, on-line learning, tools and more.

Hey, I am Alex! I work on one of the largest semi-submersible platform in the world – the central processing facility (CPF) Ichthys Explorer.

To get where I am now, after high school, I completed an electrical apprenticeship. During that time I was able to gain a clearer vision of where I wanted to work and what I wanted to do.

After my electrical apprenticeship I continued to study through an instrumentation apprenticeship and eventually got into operations.

I enjoy several aspects of my job including the helicopter ride out to work. I always take a moment when we take off to realise how lucky I am - not everybody gets to catch a helicopter to work.

I enjoy the daily tasks and problem solving and challenges. I also enjoy the people and teams that I get to work with here at INPEX.

Senior Environment Advisor

Hi, I’m Ben! I am a Senior Environment Advisor at INPEX.

I am based in the Perth office, but I work across the business on a variety of projects.

These include environmental offset programs, setting up protected areas with Aboriginal Traditional Owners, and working with Aboriginal ranger groups to manage Land and Sea Country in the territory. I provide technical input into our environmental management plans for our operations and assist with onshore and offshore environmental monitoring.

I’m also looking into a blue carbon future for Australia’s tropical north, with researchers from around the country. Recently, I’ve started looking at INPEX Australia’s indirect greenhouse gas emissions and exploring tidal energy to support INPEX’s commitment towards net-zero by 2050.

I enjoy the flexibility INPEX offers me, I work with great people and I’ve been offered a wide range of work opportunities that is different to the typical energy sector.
