Rhett Hicks: Experience-driven approach to engineering

Rhett Hicks, is a third-year Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) (Honours) student at CDU with a strong foundation built over more than a decade in the civil industry.

A proud Territorian with extensive experience in rural and remote areas, Rhett brings practical expertise and a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing infrastructure development in the Top End.

Rhett has received multiple academic excellence awards and is known for his leadership and commitment to fostering collaboration among his peers.

He has undertaken placements across industry and government and is eager to further develop his skills through placement opportunities with INPEX at the Ichthys LNG onshore production facilities.

This scholarship will make a significant difference… reducing the pressures of balancing study, work and family, while providing invaluable industry exposure,” Rhett said.

Rhett’s long-term goal is to become a professional civil engineer specialising in project management and delivering high-quality infrastructure outcomes for the NT and Australia.

Through initiatives like the INPEX Scholarship program, INPEX continues to invest in students who are not only academically capable but deeply committed to the communities in which they live and work.

Jackson and Rhett represent the next generation of Territory engineers who will play a vital role in shaping infrastructure, energy and development across Northern Australia.

INPEX congratulates both recipients and looks forward to supporting them on their academic and professional journeys.

INPEX is committed to recognising and respecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples whose cultures have existed in Australia for more than 65,000 years.

In particular, we acknowledge the Larrakia people as the recognised Traditional Owners of the land and waters where Ichthys LNG onshore facilities are located, in addition to the Whadjuk Nyoongar people on whose lands our Perth office is situated. Furthermore, Broome and Djarindjin are important logistical locations for transit of our offshore workforce, and we therefore extend our acknowledgement to the Yawuru, Bardi and Jawi peoples, respectively.

INPEX acknowledges the important role Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples continue to play in the development of our business in Australia and pay our respects to their Elders – past and present.
