INPEX and Northern Territory Government Sign Strategic Agreement to Advance Sustainable Development
TOKYO, JAPAN - INPEX CORPORATION (INPEX) announced it has signed a strategic agreement with Australia’s Northern Territory Government to provide an agreed sustainable development framework supporting alignment, collaboration and synergies over the coming decades.
The strategic agreement was signed with the Hon. Lia Finocchiaro MLA, Chief Minister of the Northern Territory with the objective of supporting sustainable development across shared economic, social and environmental targets, within a competitive framework. The multi-decade non-binding strategic agreement builds on the commitment statement jointly signed by INPEX and the Northern Territory Government in July 2022.
The parties will work together through a co-ordination committee to implement the agreement in alignment with the following mutual foundations:
- increasing local skills and stimulating business in the Northern Territory
- advancing economic growth
- increasing trade
- protecting the environment
- maintaining safe production from the Ichthys LNG facilities for the long term
- advancing the transition towards a net-zero society by 2050 in the Northern Territory, Australia and Japan
As outlined in the INPEX Vision 2035 announced in February 2025, INPEX aims to realize a responsible energy transition by supporting Indo-Pacific energy security while actively contributing to transition towards net zero by 2050.
