INPEX moves to strengthen Australia’s fuel security

Posted 13 April 2026

INPEX is taking decisive action to support Australia’s fuel security by making additional Ichthys condensate cargoes available to domestic refiners, helping ensure reliable fuel supply amid ongoing global uncertainty.

An Ichthys condensate cargo of approximately 630,000 barrels (100 million litres) will depart the Ichthys Venturer floating production storage and offloading facility in the Browse Basin offshore Western Australia in late April 2026, with delivery to one of Australia’s east coast refineries scheduled for May. Condensate is a critical feedstock for local refineries, underpinning the production of essential transport fuels such as petrol, diesel and jet fuel.

To further bolster Australia’s fuel supply, INPEX also intends to make a second condensate cargo of similar volume available in the coming months. This cargo will be preferentially offered to Australian refineries, with timing and delivery subject to the refinery’s operational requirements and agreement on commercial terms.

INPEX Managing Director, Country Chair Australia, Tetsu Murayama, said the additional cargoes reflect INPEX’s longstanding commitment to Australia’s energy security and the company’s role as a major long-term investor in the country.

“With global fuel markets under strain, INPEX is focused on playing a clear, demonstrable role in supporting reliable fuel supply for Australia,” Mr Murayama said.

“Making additional Ichthys condensate available to Australian refineries demonstrates our strong partnership with industry and government and our responsibility as a long-term supplier supporting Australia’s energy security.”

Since 2019, INPEX has supplied 30 condensate cargoes from the Ichthys Field to Australian customers, reinforcing its contribution to domestic fuel security. INPEX will continue to work constructively with industry partners and the Federal Government to support stable access to critical fuel products for Australia.
