INPEX strengthens environmental monitoring and emissions reporting

Posted 1 October 2026

INPEX is strengthening environmental monitoring and emissions reporting as part of its ongoing commitment to transparent reporting, operational improvement and responsible environmental management.

INPEX has submitted its Annual Environmental Monitoring Report for the 2026 reporting year aligned with regulatory requirements and backed by a comprehensive program to confirm accuracy.

Additionally, in 2026 INPEX voluntarily expanded its air quality monitoring network in the Darwin region by investing in three additional air quality monitoring stations, increasing INPEX’s monitoring stations to six.

Monitoring confirms ambient air quality in the Darwin region remains well below government guidelines and, consistent with previous advice from the Northern Territory Chief Health Officer and the NT EPA, there is no evidence of increased risk to health or the environment from operations at the Ichthys LNG facility.

INPEX is participating constructively in the NT EPA's licence review process and remains committed to transparency and continuous operational improvement.

Beyond these measures, INPEX is progressing significant long-term investment in carbon capture and storage infrastructure to support decarbonisation of the Ichthys LNG Project, with potential to reduce operational greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 40 per cent.

INPEX is committed to recognising and respecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples whose cultures have existed in Australia for more than 65,000 years.

In particular, we acknowledge the Larrakia people as the recognised Traditional Owners of the land and waters where Ichthys LNG onshore facilities are located, in addition to the Whadjuk Nyoongar people on whose lands our Perth office is situated. Furthermore, Broome and Djarindjin are important logistical locations for transit of our offshore workforce, and we therefore extend our acknowledgement to the Yawuru, Bardi and Jawi peoples, respectively.

INPEX acknowledges the important role Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples continue to play in the development of our business in Australia and pay our respects to their Elders – past and present.
